Rebecca Applegate, founder of Whiting Woods Montessori, has dedicated over two decades to supporting the growth, development, and well-being of young children and their families.
Raised in nearby La Cañada Flintridge, Rebecca began working with children at just twelve years old, building meaningful, lasting relationships with families in her community through babysitting and low-cost tutoring for those in need. What began as a natural love for working with children quickly grew into a lifelong calling.
At seventeen, Rebecca began her first teaching position at a local Montessori school, working with children ages 2 to 6. Within a few short years, she became a Lead Teacher, guiding her own classroom of young children with confidence, care, and intention. After five years in the classroom, she followed her dream of becoming a mother and creating a space of her own—one that reflected her values, experience, and vision for early childhood education.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Administration from the University of Arizona, graduating with honors. She also earned her Early Childhood Education certificate through UCLA and is Montessori-trained for both ages 0–3 and 3–6 through the North American Montessori Center. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Leadership, hoping to expand her knowledge and expertise.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has worked closely with children of all developmental backgrounds, including those with diagnosed and suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is experienced in recognizing early signs of cognitive, behavioral, and speech differences and is passionate about supporting families in accessing the resources they need. She maintains a close relationship with the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center to help ensure children receive appropriate services and support.
At the heart of Rebecca’s work is a deep belief that every child deserves to feel seen, respected, and capable. Whiting Woods Montessori was created as a reflection of that belief—a thoughtfully prepared, inclusive environment where children can grow with confidence, independence, and joy.
Rebecca feels honored to be a part of each child’s early years and looks forward to continuing to serve families through her work for many years to come.
