Alexander Applegate, co-founder of Whiting Woods Montessori, brings a calm, engaging presence and a natural gift for connecting with children.
Raised in nearby La Cañada Flintridge, Alexander attended middle and high school at La Cañada High School alongside his wife, Rebecca. Over the past decade, he has worked closely with children both at Whiting Woods Montessori and at home as a devoted father to his children.
Alexander has a genuine love for working with children and an intuitive ability to meet them where they are—with patience, humor, and respect. He builds strong, trusting relationships and brings a steady, grounding energy to the classroom that children naturally respond to.
In a field where male educators are both rare and deeply valuable, Alexander offers an important presence. He provides children with a positive male role model during their early years, helping to foster balanced relationships, diverse perspectives, and a strong sense of security within the learning environment.
He holds an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science from Pasadena City College and brings a creative, hands-on approach to his work. One of his passions is building intricate LEGO creations—many of which are displayed throughout the school. These designs often spark curiosity, imagination, and meaningful conversations among the children.
Alexander feels honored to be part of each child’s early learning journey and takes pride in contributing to a warm, inclusive, and thoughtfully prepared environment at Whiting Woods Montessori.
